I live underground in a warren
of moss-covered silence. My nose
is a beak. My fingers, talons. My neck
spins completely, like an owl.
I forgot how to read. My fingertips
can’t touch. Am I still human?
Tail to keep the balance. I lost
my opposable thumbs.
Black ink, like raven wings. I haven’t
written a poem in three weeks.
Silver trinkets.
Feral mammal land. Troop of horses
running in unison. Wild like me
at 3 a.m., with my hair piled on
my head.
