Selva Antica

       He falsified nothing.
       The forest was there
       Percolating life
       From the deep waters,
       Unknotting his mind
       In the complexity of groves,
       The reason-defying foliage.
       When he finally lost
       The logician’s zest
       For making doors
       He found the light
       Protracted everywhere.
       The deer roamed quietly
       While his tensions faltered.
       He felt their softness
       Nuzzle against his body,
       And even the rocks
       Taught him
       A hard, industrious joy.
